Wiping over Compression Socks for Wuḍūʾ
Question
Assalamualaikum,
I am 8 months pregnant. Not fasting. Alhamdulilah I am reading Quran and praying often this month. I have Vericose veins so I have been prescribed to wear compression socks. I have been avoiding drinking water to avoid using the restroom frequently to keep my wudu because the socks are so tight it’s hard to take them off and on, I sometimes wait for my husband to help me with this.
Because I avoid drinking water I have become extremely fatigued. I pass out from exhaustion and probably dehydration. Is it ok to do masa over my socks instead of taking them off for wudu? They are very thick but not waterproof. But I could walk a mile in them on the ground and they would not tear bc of the thickness and tightness the compression is supposed to supply to my veins.
Answer
Waʿalaykum al-Salām wa Raḥmat Allah wa Barakātu-h.
In the Name of Allah, The Gracious, The Merciful.
The Darul Ifta would have to see the compression socks before giving a ruling on them.
However, you may wear your compression socks under khuffayn (leather socks) and wipe over the khuffayn. You may wipe over your khuffayn for twenty-four hours after wuḍūʾ is broken. If you remove your compression socks once a day, this method of wiping over khuffayn will help. At the beginning of the day, wash your feet when making wuḍūʾ, then wear your compression socks, and, finally, wear the khuffayn on top.
Continue drinking water.
And Allah knows best.
